Emotional Support Funding

Emotional Support and Counselling Through Our Partnership
Emotional Respite Disability Counselling Service, In Partnership with Muscular Dystrophy Fundraising UK
At Emotional Respite Disability Counselling Service, we recognise that living with a rare muscular dystrophy can bring emotional challenges for individuals, their families and carers. Alongside the physical impact of a diagnosis or changing health needs, people may experience anxiety, uncertainty, isolation, grief, relationship difficulties and concerns about the future.
Through our partnership with Muscular Dystrophy Fundraising UK, we aim to make professional emotional support and counselling more accessible to those who need it.
Our service offers a safe, compassionate and confidential space where individuals can explore their feelings, talk through their concerns and receive support that acknowledges their personal experiences and circumstances.
We understand that every person's journey is different. Our approach is person-centred, sensitive to the challenges associated with disability and long-term health conditions, and focused on each individual's emotional wellbeing, resilience and quality of life.

Who Can Access Support?
Through this partnership, funded counselling may be available to:
-
Adults living with a rare muscular dystrophy.
-
Family members who are affected emotionally by a loved one's condition.
-
Carers who may be experiencing stress, emotional strain or difficulties coping with their caring responsibilities.

What Support Is Available?
Eligible applicants whose requests are approved by Muscular Dystrophy Fundraising UK may receive funding for up to six counselling sessions with Emotional Respite Disability Counselling Service.
Sessions provide an opportunity to discuss emotional difficulties, develop coping strategies, explore personal challenges and feel heard and understood without judgement.
We recognise that seeking help can be difficult, particularly when someone has been managing complex circumstances for a long time. We aim to make accessing support as approachable and reassuring as possible.

Our Shared Commitment
Our partnership with Muscular Dystrophy Fundraising UK reflects our shared commitment to ensuring that people affected by rare muscular dystrophies do not have to face their emotional challenges alone.
By working together, we hope to reduce barriers to counselling, promote emotional wellbeing and help individuals, families and carers feel supported through the challenges they may encounter.
At Emotional Respite Disability Counselling Service, we believe that emotional support is an important part of holistic care. Everyone deserves the opportunity to be listened to, understood and supported with compassion and dignity.
