Mental Health Support for Delivering Change Participants
Emotional Respite Disability Counselling Service is proud to provide dedicated mental health support for participants of Delivering Change training delivered in partnership with Museums Galleries Scotland.
We understand that the content of Delivering Change can be powerful, personal, and at times emotionally triggering. Exploring disability, ableism, lived experience, identity, and systemic barriers may surface past experiences, challenge long-held beliefs, or bring up difficult emotions. You are not expected to process this alone.
Participants are entitled to up to six (6) free counselling sessions with our service.

Why Support Is Offered
Delivering Change explores topics such as:
-
Definitions and models of disability, including the Social Model
-
Personal and societal experiences of disability
-
Ableism and anti-ableism
-
Intersectionality and recognising bias
-
Language of disability
-
Inclusive and accessible design
-
Environmental and communication barriers
-
Situational, temporary, and permanent barriers
These discussions can resonate deeply, especially for those with lived experience of disability, caring roles, marginalised identities, or personal encounters with discrimination. Emotional responses such as anger, grief, confusion, vulnerability, or overwhelm are completely valid.
Our role is to provide a safe, confidential space to reflect, unpack, and process whatever arises.

Our Approach
Emotional Respite Disability Counselling Service works from:
-
A trauma-informed framework
-
Anti-ableist and socially conscious practice
-
Person-centred values
-
Strength-based and empowering approaches
We recognise disability as both a lived identity and a socially constructed experience shaped by environmental and systemic barriers. We hold space for complexity, including the limitations of models such as the Social Model, and honour each person’s individual narrative.

Confidentiality
Your sessions are confidential and independent from Museums Galleries Scotland and the Delivering Change training team. No information will be shared without your consent, except where legally required for safety reasons.
Accessing counselling will not affect your professional standing or involvement in training.
